I look forward to being your child’s English teacher this year, and I hope we can work together to make your child’s learning experience in 8th grade a positive and meaningful one. Checking homework in your child’s planner each night will provide a way for you to stay informed about class agendas and assignments, as well as offering a means of communication between us. I also request that you sign the planner at the end of each week as acknowledgment you have seen it. All homework should be written each night, and if there is no homework, the student should have written "none". Homework and announcements will also be posted on Schoology.
In addition, I will be sending home information about REMIND, a free and safe messaging product I have used successfully to keep you and your student up-to-date with daily homework, announcements, notices and what is happening in the classroom. (A chat option is available for occasional one-to-one conversations with subscribers. My hours are generally 7 to 7 Monday-Friday.) These simple and short messages are sent directly to your own as well as your student's cell phone, tablet or computer when you/s/he subscribe. It is a free service and personal contact information is kept private. For your convenience, I have posted a general parent overview on this page, and specific subscriber information for each of my classes will also be posted, all of which can be downloaded. I highly recommend that you subscribe as it will notify you in real time about nightly homework as well as pertinent and timely notices (for times when it might be inconvenient to check the nightly planner).
Please refer to your child's specific English period on Schoology to view the policies and syllabus for that particular class. You may also view homework and assignments and any important notices here as well. A copy of the parent letter, policies and syllabus will be sent home with your child the first week of school. They may also be downloaded from this page. Please carefully review the information and return the signed tear-off from the parent letter acknowledging your receipt of these policies and expectations.
Again, thank you for your cooperation. I look forward to meeting you all at our Back to School Night on August 29th. I know that working together, as parent, teacher, and student, we can make this a positive and successful year for us all.
