About 6th Grade Magnet ELA

My goal is to get my 6th grade ELA Magnet students to think critically in order to establish and build a strong educational foundation. With that in mind, this school year we will be learning how to strengthen our reading, writing, and language skills. In order to achieve those goals, we will be working on the following curriculum units during the year: narratives, research/exposition, responding to literature/texts, and persuasion. We will be reading many carefully selected literary works that are cross-curricular to social studies. These will include short stories, poetry, drama and nonfiction. Grammar, usage and mechanics will also be taught and reviewed on a regular basis and will be stressed on all written assignments. In addition, students will also be required to read independently outside the regular curriculum. I expect that every child will do well in my English class, as long as they are engaged and continue to turn in all of the assigned work and participate in class. All assignments, rubrics, and the agenda is found on my Schoology page.
