SCIENCE (Period 1 (H))

Course Description

Incorporating the California State Science Standards for 7th grade and the Common Core State Standards as guidelines while transitioning to Next Generation Science Standards, this magnet science course focuses on life science, but incorporates elements of earth, environmental, and physical sciences too.  Hands-on activities are a primary focus which includes experiments, problem solving activities, model building, discussions, computer usage, research, demonstrations, scientific reading and writing, and oral presentations.  Along with the hands-on activities, students have an opportunity to build a strong science skill set which includes data analysis, graphing, drawing, lab write ups, note-taking, measuring, scientific tool use, observation, and engineering practices.  As a humanities magnet, there are opportunities to connect science to global perspectives and also incorporate elements of the fine arts like painting and drawing into the science lessons.
