Holmes Middle School is a place where teachers, administrators, staff, students, and parents share the responsibility for academic achievement and character building of all our students. Every student at Holmes Middle School is expected to maximize his or her learning potential by demonstrating sustained improvement in all academic areas. Students will strive to master the Common Core State Standards which are organized around the College and Career Readiness (CCR) Anchor Standards. Students will strive to perform proficiently or advanced on assessments that measure their attainment of the knowledge and skills embodied in the Standards. Holmes’ students will endeavor to improve their literacy skills through reading, writing, speaking, and listening lessons and activities offered across all academic areas. In addition, students will continually improve their mathematical practices and concepts as emphasized in the Common Core State Math Standards. Each student will receive the individual attention necessary to ensure his or her understanding of grade appropriate content standards. In areas where students do not meet content standards, they will be offered assistance and intervention. In addition, teachers, administration and staff will participate in quality professional development to improve instructional practices and ensure every 21st Century student has equal access to a high quality education. Parents are encouraged to be active participants in their children’s educational process by discussing and checking school work and also by attending parent meetings and conferences held at Holmes Middle School. All students at Holmes Middle School are held to the Holmes Way of high character standards and expectations and are rewarded for their excellence in Academics, Citizenship, and Effort (ACE Awards).
