All parents are invited to the 11th Annual GATE/SAS Parent Conference on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the Roybal Learning Center in Los Angeles. Registration begins at 7:30 AM. Conference will be from 8:15 am to 12:30 PM. Parents will have the opportunity to hear a keynote address and attend workshops on a variety of topics specific to gifted/talented learners. It is free. Hello Magnet Parents! Please complete the Holmes Middle School Magnet Parent Survey 2020 that was emailed to you previously. You will need your email address to start. Your valuable input will help us serve you and your child better. Our goal is to have 100% parent participation. The survey link will be open until Sunday, March 1, 2020. We hope you will support the 2020 LAUSD Sharing Brings Hope Campaign, running Feb. 18 through March 3. The charities are reputable and effective partners, and your donations support their efforts in the community. Student Donation Envelopes will be sent home with your child. Please consider giving to the charity of your choice. No amount is too small because together, sharing does bring hope. Your gifts help to make a difference in the lives of thousands of families, and makes our communities a better place to live.
The 8th grade panorama picture will be taken on Monday, March 2, 2020. The cost of the panorama picture is $20. Payment envelopes were distributed on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 during advisory.
Students can make payments starting February 21 to Friday, February 28, 2020. Payments can be made in the student store during nutrition and lunch. The student store will only accept the exact cash amount. No checks or money orders will be accepted. Students may order online at mylifetouch.com using School ID number: DC049018T0.
Students must wear either the school uniform, the class t-shirt, or the class sweatshirt along with the uniform pants. Anyone wearing unauthorized clothing will be excluded from the picture.

Want to get autographs from a Dodger? Come join us on Saturday, February 29, 2020 for our Students-in-Action Walkathon and Information Fair. It starts at 9:00 AM through 1:00 PM. Learn and obtain information about homeless education. Alumni Dodger Lacy Lee will be available to sign autographs. On March 21, 2020, LA Unified presents College Palooza, a gathering of college and career experts, educators, families, and community partners from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm at LA Trade Tech College. It will have over 20 workshops including financial aid, college admissions and career pathways. You will have the opportunity to connect with peers and advocates for college and career readiness, network with college representatives, and learn about community resources. Holmes Middle School will provide a bus for the first 30 families to register in the Counseling Office. (Click on heading to access flyer.)
Holmes Humanities Magnet is a California Distinguished School, a recipient of the Title I Academic Achievement Award, and a 2013-2014 Excelling Magnet Program based on the School Performance Framework. As part of Holmes Middle School, the magnet shares the distinction of having achieved 6 years Accreditation Status from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in 2020. With approximately 425 students in grades six to eight, the students at Holmes represent a wide spectrum of cultural, academic, ethnic, and economic backgrounds, reflecting the great diversity of Southern California. This microcosm mirrors the diversity of our region and our world. Holmes supports an atmosphere that values cultural and ethnic diversity, where academic challenge is expected and where the intrinsic worth of each child is recognized.

All LAUSD Middle School students from 6th-8th grade are eligible to enter the 1st Annual ACSA "Student Voices" Essay Contest. Write a narrative essay about a time you used your student voice to help others. Your essay has to be one page maximum, size 12 font, Times New Roman, and single spaced. Winning Essays will be displayed at the ACSA Women's Leadership Summit on March 7, 2020.
